About the Cards

MES Games: Character cards and game cards for card battle games and discussion.

For how to use the application and possible games, see the Online Game Cards page. For more information on these cards and how to use them, please visit the MES English Games main page.

How to Use These Cards

Little Town Characters: Elementary school children with full profiles including their family, likes, dislikes, pets, after school sports, special talents and more.

No Reading Required: The cards use images only for all vocabulary, so children can focus on English regardless of reading competency. Perfect for very young learners!

Conversation Practice: These cards can be used as conversation builders, introduction models, and more. Practice using third person, first person, 'we', 'they', and plural 'you'.

Game Modes:

  • Order Mode: Display cards in sequence (1,2,3...), shuffled, or random
  • Cover Mode: Hide information for guessing games
  • Points Mode: Track scores during card battle games
  • Timer Mode: Set a countdown timer (e.g., "How many cards can you describe in 60 seconds?")
  • Stopwatch Mode: Track how long tasks take (e.g., "How long to describe one complete card?")
  • Display Options: Show one card or two cards side-by-side

Sample Game: Students assume the personality on their card and introduce themselves:

A: Hi, my name is Jen Marx. What's your name?
B: My name is Ben Kix. It's nice to meet you, Jen.
A: Nice to meet you, too, Ben.

Then students take turns asking yes/no questions to try to win each other's cards:

A: Can you play the piano well?
B: No, I can't. Can you use a computer well?
A: Yes, I can.

In this case, A loses and gives their card to B. The person with the most cards at the end wins!
