Relative Clause Grammar Exercises

and part-time job vocabulary exercises for students learning English. Practice spelling, vocabulary, speaking, questions and answers, as well a grammar with these fun on-line games and activities.

This game focuses on part-time jobs with four main sections. There is a places/store vocabulary practice section and a spelling section. Then, there are simple questions and answer games for conversation practice asking about someone's part-time job. The grammar games help students to learn to form and use relative clauses. These activities are associated with the ESL Young Learners Curriculum - Unit 15.

The questions and answers for the grammar exercises are similar to these below:

A: Who is Tom?

B: He's the boy who works at the hotel.

A: Is the girl that works at the movies your sister?

B: Yes, she is./No, she's not.

A: Do you know the boy that works at the mall?

B: Yes. That's Bill.

A: Who is the girl that works at the clothing store?

B: That's Becky.

Other notes:

The vocabulary and spelling games just cover the business or store vocabulary, 'a clothing store' or 'a fast food restaurant' for example. It's important that the students be familiar with the vocabulary before trying the other sections.

The questions section has simple 'Where does he/she work?' questions and simple answers, 'He works at a hotel.' It's important that students can build the simple statement before they move on to relative clause formation.

The grammar exercises use both 'that' and 'who' for the relative pronouns. The students can use either when typing their answers but the multiple choice exercises will only provide one or the other for students to choose from.
